The honest version
What mobile fitting actually involves
Mobile tyre fitting sounds like a compromise and is usually the opposite. The van carries the same tyres we sell over the counter, the same fitting machine and the same wheel balancer. What it does not carry is a waiting room, which is rather the point — the vehicle stays where it is and you carry on with your day.
How the job goes
We turn up with the sizes your registration told us to bring, get the wheel off and have a proper look. If it is a puncture in the middle of the tread and the tyre has not been driven flat, we take it off the rim, inspect the inside and repair it properly. If it cannot be repaired safely we will tell you why and show you the damage rather than just handing you a bill.
Where a tyre goes on, the wheel is balanced before it goes back on the car. That part gets skipped more often than it should by people working out of a van, and it is the difference between a car that drives properly at seventy and one that hums through the steering wheel for the next two years. The old casing leaves with us and is disposed of the way it is supposed to be.
What we need at your end
Not much. Somewhere level and firm to stand the vehicle, enough room alongside it to swing a wheel off, and permission to be there if it is not your own land. A normal driveway is perfect. A supermarket car park is usually fine. A steep street in Halifax with two wheels on the kerb is not, and we would rather say so on the phone than turn up and disappoint you.
If you are not certain your spot will work, send a photo over on WhatsApp before you book. It takes ten seconds and saves everybody a wasted trip.
The locking wheel nut
One thing worth checking now rather than when we are stood there: know where your locking wheel nut key is. It usually lives in the boot with the jack, in the glovebox or in the door bin. Without it the wheel does not come off, and the answer at that point is a specialist rather than a tyre fitter. It catches people out constantly, especially on cars bought second hand.
How far we come, and what it costs
The call-out is free across the WF6 postcodes around Normanton. Beyond that we work to a radius of about 70 miles from the workshop, which takes in most of Yorkshire and a fair way past it. There is a call-out charge outside the free area, it depends on distance, and we tell you the figure before we set off rather than after.
The radius is set by the garage and can change, so the postcode checker on this page is the reliable answer rather than anything written down. If you fall outside it, the booking form will say so instead of taking a booking we cannot honour — and you are always welcome to bring the vehicle to Albert Street instead.
Nothing is paid through this website. You settle up with the fitter when the work is done and you can see it has been done.
Before we arrive
What we need from you
Please make sure the vehicle is parked somewhere safe, level and accessible, with room for our van alongside.
If you are not sure whether the spot will work, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you.
Anywhere in the areas listed on this page — the WF6 postcodes around Normanton at the moment. Put your postcode into the checker and it will tell you which side of the line you are on.
About 70 miles from the workshop in Normanton, which covers most of Yorkshire and a good deal beyond it. The exact figure is set by the garage and can change, so the postcode checker is the reliable answer.
The booking form will say so rather than take a booking we cannot honour. Ring us anyway — if you can get the vehicle to Albert Street we will look after it in the workshop.
Mobile hours are set separately from the workshop, day by day, and the booking form only ever offers slots we can actually do. If you can see it, you can have it.
Somewhere safe, level and legal, with enough room alongside the vehicle to get a jack in and a wheel off. A driveway or a quiet corner of a car park is ideal. A steep hill or soft ground is not.
Not necessarily, as long as we can reach the vehicle and reach you by phone if we find something you should know about. Plenty of people leave the keys at reception and carry on working.
Yes — the same choice you would get at the workshop. Tell us the size when you book so we know we have one on board before we set off.
Sometimes. Ring and tell us exactly where you are. If it is somewhere we can work safely we will; if it is not, we will say so rather than turn up and tell you there.
You settle up with the fitter when the job is finished. Nothing is taken through this website, and anything chargeable is agreed with you before we set off.
